Membership Categories & Requirements
The membership shall be composed of Active, Associate, Honorary, Senior and Inactive members.
Active Members
Definition: Active Members shall consist of urologists or specialists in other medical fields who are actively involved in the management of urologic cancer, and if active in patient care, enter at least one patient per year into an active trial.
Requirements
- An active member must annually provide an estimate of the number of patients treated for the various urologic cancers, either by himself or within his institution, and agree to contribute to protocols conducted by the SUO-CTC.
- Any active member, who is active in patient care, and who fails to enter at least one patient per year into an active trial for a period of two consecutive years, shall be subject to automatic transfer of membership to Associate membership.
- An MD or DO membership: Acceptable completion of an accredited urologic training program or its equivalent in a foreign country and an unrestricted license to practice medicine in her state or country of residence or practice;
- Completed Application for Membership;
- A willingness to participate in and properly discharge those responsibilities assigned by SUO-CTC
- Waiver: The Board of Directors may waive any specific qualification or requirement which it considers justified.
Associate Members
Definition: Shall consist of physicians, surgeons or others who cannot fulfill the requirements of active membership but are interested in the objectives of this SUO-CTC.
Requirements:
- Completed Application for Membership;
- A willingness to participate in and properly discharge those responsibilities assigned by SUO-CTC
Honorary Members
Definition: Shall be such persons who have made significant contributions in the field of urologic oncology as may be recommended by the Executive Committee and approved by a majority vote of the SUO-CTC present and voting, at one of the annual meetings. They are exempt from the annual fee.
Senior Members
Definition: Shall be any active member in good standing who has reached the age of sixty-five years and has retired from active clinical practice. Application shall be made in writing to the Secretary at least sixty days before the date of the annual meeting.
Election of Members
Application for active or associate membership must be made in writing on the application form provided by the Secretary. The application must be endorsed by a member of the SUO-CTC (except for applications that can be verified that they are a member of the Society of Urologic Oncology and/or those applications that are submitted within the first twelve months of the SUO-CTC's formation). The Clinical Trials Committee will be responsible for the evaluation of candidates and their provisional acceptance. The approved applications shall be voted on by the members at the next annual meeting. The Secretary will notify each new member of his election.
Privileges and Obligations
- Active Members will have the privileges of voting, submitting and coordinating research protocols, participating in annual meetings, receiving the newsletter and other publications of the Corporation, and receipt of access to the active members restricted areas of the Corporation website. Active Members will pay dues as determined annually by the Executive Committee and they agree to abide by the By-laws of the Corporation. Active members may hold positions of committees and executive office.
- Associate members will enjoy the privileges of active membership with the exception of voting, membership on committees, or holding executive office. They will pay dues as determined annually by the Executive Committee and
they agree to abide by the By-laws of the Corporation.
- Honorary and Senior members shall enjoy the privileges of active membership with the exception of voting, membership on committees or holding executive office. They will not be required to pay dues or assessments which may be imposed by the executive Committee and they agree to abide by the By-laws of the Corporation.
